Your tires are an essential part of your vehicle’s safety, which makes monitoring them crucial. Unfortunately, many drivers may not realize they have a problem with their tires until they are severely damaged or a vehicle services specialist recommends replacing them. Watch for the following signs that your vehicle needs new tires.
Poor Tread Depth
Your tire tread should always be above 1/16 inch to be considered safe. If you regularly travel on slick surfaces, you likely will want to double this number. You can check tire tread using a gauge or take a penny and place the penny head-side down in the tread. If you can see Lincoln’s entire head, then the tread is too low, and you should replace the tires.
Heavy Vibration
While traveling on rough roads will produce some minor vibrations, vibrations when driving that are unusual or have no explanation could mean that your tires are no longer balanced or have gone out of alignment. You may need to have a vehicle services professional check your vehicle’s tires.
Cracks in the Sidewall
Cracking and cuts along the sidewall of a tire are often signs that the tire is developing a leak. Cracks could also be a sign that the tire could be close to a blowout. In either case, you could be compromising your safety if you ignore the problem.
