Beech Fork State Park is a 3,144-acre park located just 15 minutes from Lavalette in Barboursville. Take advantage of all this West Virginia gem has to offer when you spend a day there.
Hike
Tackle one of Beech Fork’s eight designated hiking trails, which range in length and difficulty level to accommodate all types of hikers. Enjoy a leisurely 0.8-mile loop on the kid-friendly Nature Trail, or take a mile-long stroll down the paved Fitness Trail. The 2-mile moderate Overlook Trail, as its name suggests, leads to stunning ridgeline views.
Fish
Within the park, you’ll find the 720-acre Beech Fork Lake. Take a boat or canoe out to fish, or choose the perfect spot from its 31 miles of shoreline. You might catch a variety of sport fish, including largemouth bass, striped bass, catfish, bluegill, crappie, and more. You’ll need to acquire a fishing license, however, before you can cast your line.
Camp
If you want to make more than a day of your adventure, you can stay the night. Beech Fork’s campgrounds are open all year and feature 275 campsites in four areas of the park: Old Orchard, Moxley Branch, Four Coves, and Lakeview. All have paved parking areas, grills, picnic areas, and restrooms. Only Old Orchard campground, however, has Wi-Fi. You can get all your food, firewood, ice, and other camping supplies from the Camper’s Corner Store.
In addition to hiking, fishing, and camping, Beech Fork is a great destination for biking, geocaching, swimming, golfing, and hunting. You can easily spend a day or weekend at the park with the whole family.
