If you’re in the mood for a beach day, you don’t have to travel to the coast to make it a reality. Check out these three beachy destinations right here in West Virginia.

  1. Jennings Randolph Lake

Jennings Randolph Lake, near the Maryland and West Virginia border, is a 5.5-mile-long reservoir that offers opportunities for swimming, boating, water skiing, sailing, and fishing. Throw down a towel to sunbathe on its popular Shaw Beach, which has designated swimming and picnicking areas. It also has conveniences such as restrooms, water fountains, and foot wash stations.

  1. Stonewall Jackson Lake

Stonewall Jackson Lake is tucked between the rolling hills and mountains of Lewis County, offering a stunning setting for beachgoers. Its sands are clean and welcoming and include areas for swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, and boating. Stay for a weekend at the adjacent state park resort, which features a golf course, restaurants, and a spa.

  1. Summersville Lake

As West Virginia’s largest lake, Summersville has plenty of accessible beaches. It’s known for its 60 miles of shoreline and incredibly clear water. Set up your home base for the day on one of its clean, sandy beaches, then take to the water to swim, fish, boat, and even scuba dive. Battle Run Beach is one of Summersville’s most popular waterside destinations. Reserve your spot at the campground if you plan to stay for a long weekend.

Enjoy a day at the beach without leaving the state when you visit the shores of one of these three popular West Virginia lakes.
