Lavalette, West Virginia, is an adventurer’s paradise, close to Beech Fork Lake and Twelvepole Creek. Many locals spend their downtime outdoors boating, fishing in the waterways, and exploring nature on foot. When you’re craving outdoor adventure, hit the following Lavalette trails.
Mary Davis Trail
Mary Davis Trail is a nearly 5-mile dog-friendly track in the beautiful Beech Fork State Forest. With an elevation gain of nearly 470 feet, it isn’t for the faint-hearted. However, the majestic views at the top of the trail make it worth the effort. If you can’t make it up the incline, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll around Beech Fork Lake. The trail is well-marked and maintained, although the off-road bikes that share the path can make it a little muddy after rain.
Romie’s Run
Opened in 2017, Romie’s Run is a relatively new loop trail beginning and ending near Beech Fork Marina and Visitors Center. Like the Mary Davis Trail, it takes you along the edge of Beech Fork Lake. However, this time you’ll admire the lake from the Lavalette side. Tackling Romie’s Run isn’t easy, but at just under 3 miles, this trail is perfect for active kids as well as adults. If you do bring the little ones, make sure you leave a little extra time. They won’t want to walk on until they’ve stopped at the nearby playground!
Take your time on the trails, and keep your eyes peeled. You never know what wildlife you’ll encounter on your next outdoor adventure.
